Get Tooth-Colored Fillings in Red Bank, NJ

Dental decay is one of the most widespread health problems facing Americans, and it is so common that almost everyone has at least one cavity in their mouth. Dental caries are most often caused from a lack of proper oral hygiene, but sometimes they occur for other reasons, too. If you are experiencing tooth pain, it is important to have your teeth examined to ensure there is nothing harmful going on. If we do find a cavity present, tooth-colored fillings is an ideal solution. Aside from that, Red Bank, NJ dentist Dr. DiBona will discuss different options for your specific needs.

Cavity Treatments and Fillings

The most common way to treat a cavity is with a dental filling. Here at Denise DiBona, DDS, LLC, we offer the following ways to treat cavities:

  • Air abrasion “no-drill” method to clean decay
  • Tooth-colored fillings
  • Porcelain/composite inlays and onlays
  • Amalgam fillings

Amalgam fillings are the most common types of fillings and are widely recognized as safe, sturdy fillings. We will use silver amalgam fillings upon your request, as they may be best at holding up for your molars that are not seen when you smile. If you do not request any type of fillings, we will place tooth-colored fillings for their more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

What Is Air Abrasion?

Air abrasion is a special dental technique used to remove decay from your teeth. One of the best benefits of the procedure is that you do not have to have any type of shot or surgery performed to have the decay removed. The procedure is considered safe.

The process is performed by using a tool that uses air compression to blast particles at the decayed area on your tooth. The particles remove the decay from your tooth and the decay is then removed from your mouth using a suction tube.

Air abrasion will typically be the right procedure for you if your cavity is newly forming and has not begun to enter deep into the tooth. If you have a deep cavity, the procedure will not work as thoroughly.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings are an ideal choice for anyone who needs a filling but does not want the silver material in their mouth. The filling is matched to your tooth color and blends in to look natural. You will be able to eat and talk without any problem once the filling is in place.

Amalgam Fillings

Amalgam fillings are the most common types of fillings and are widely recognized as well. The fillings are silver in color. We will use amalgam fillings upon your request. If you do not request any type of fillings, we will automatically place tooth-colored fillings in your mouth.

Inlays and onlays

If your cavity occurs in a molar and is too large for a filling, we may recommend an inlay or onlay. Made of porcelain in a lab and matched to your tooth color, inlays fill the cavity in the center of a molar’s surface, while onlays expand to also cover the points of your molars. These restorations are more conservative alternatives to dental crowns and are bonded directly to your tooth.
